Love Your Local Park
May 01, 2017 02:25PM
Love Your Park Week begins with a city-wide service day from 9 a.m. to noon, May 13. The effort continues through May 21. More than 100 Park Friends Groups across Philadelphia will host volunteer workdays during the week.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to lend a hand at a local Philly park cleaning up litter, planting trees and bulbs and other projects sponsored by the Chubb Charitable Foundation and NovaCare Rehabilitation.
Park Friends Groups comprise community-based neighbors that volunteer their time to host park cleanups and plan events throughout the year. Each participating Park Friends Group designates an event coordinator to lead their workday, and that leader will be the main contact for any updates, needs or special instructions.
Tools, gloves and materials are provided. Workers should dress appropriately, and closed-toed shoes are a must. Boots or sturdy sneakers are best; please avoid ballet flats, sandals, flip-flops, etc. Also, bring a reusable water bottle and anything needed to be comfortable, such as sunblock, a hat, bug spray or a snack.
